Collaboration Announcement
In November 2025, LyondellBasell (LYB) and Nippon Paint China announced a collaboration at the China International Import Expo to implement a closed-loop recycling system for coating packaging barrels.
Recycling Process
The system involves collecting used barrels through Nippon Paint’s Refresh Service, followed by preliminary processing by waste management providers. The plastic components are then processed at GXLYB, a joint venture between LYB and Genox Recycling, to produce recycled pellets under the LYB Circulen Recover brand. These are blended with virgin materials and molded into new packaging.
Previous Collaborations
In 2022, LYB and Nippon Paint China collaborated to create packaging using Circulen Recover polymers for Nippon Paint’s waterproofing and interface agent products. This initiative marked a significant step in advancing circularity in packaging for the coatings industry in China.
Future Plans
In 2023, the companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding to further expand their cooperation in sustainable packaging solutions. The latest closed-loop initiative demonstrates their ongoing efforts to promote circularity in China’s coatings industry.
