Lummus Technology Advances PFAS Destruction Technology

At a glance
  • Lummus Technology and Element Six have developed a PFAS destruction unit.
  • The unit is located at Lummus Green Circle Labs in LaPorte, Texas.
  • It destroys carbon fluoride bonds in PFAS waste, not just modifies them.
  • The technology is available for sale to industrial and municipal water facilities.

PFAS Destruction Unit Launch

Lummus Technology, in collaboration with Element Six, has successfully launched a commercial-ready unit designed to destroy per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), commonly known as "forever chemicals." This unit is operational at the Lummus Green Circle Labs in LaPorte, Texas.

Technology and Functionality

The PFAS destruction unit employs advanced technology to break down carbon fluoride bonds in PFAS waste, rather than merely modifying the compounds to pass analytical tests. This ensures a more thorough elimination of these persistent chemicals from water supplies.

Applications and Availability

The unit is intended for use by industrial and municipal water and wastewater operators, providing them with the capability to evaluate and improve their water treatment processes. It is available for purchase by facilities seeking to implement on-site PFAS destruction.

Analytical Services

In addition to the destruction unit, Lummus offers in-house analytical services capable of detecting PFAS at parts per trillion levels. These services assist operators in assessing contamination levels and monitoring the effectiveness of their treatment systems.
