Kemira acquires REPUR S.r.l., adds activated carbon reactivation capability

Kemira has completed the acquisition of REPUR S.r.l., an Italy-based provider of activated carbon reactivation services for municipal and industrial water treatment applications. REPUR’s 2025 revenue was slightly over €5 million and it employs 21 people. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

Technology and strategic rationale

REPUR specializes in the thermal reactivation of spent activated carbon, restoring and enabling reuse of carbon media instead of replacement with virgin material. Kemira says the acquisition strengthens its position in sustainable water treatment and supports its strategy to expand in water while creating growth opportunities in circularity-driven markets.

Integration and operations

The acquired business will be integrated into Kemira’s Water Solutions business unit, and operations will continue from the current location in Italy.

Tuija Pohjolainen-Hiltunen, EVP, Water Solutions, described the acquisition as a strong example of executing Kemira’s growth strategy and noted that activated carbon’s role in contaminant removal, combined with regeneration and reactivation, supports circularity and resource efficiency.
