Project Overview

INEOS Phenol is set to construct a state-of-the-art cumene unit in Marl, Germany, with a capacity of 750,000 tonnes. The project is scheduled for completion in 2021.

Infrastructure and Efficiency

The new unit will leverage existing pipeline connections between INEOS’ phenol and acetone production site in Gladbeck, the Evonik Chemiepark in Marl, and the BP refinery and cracker complex in Gelsenkirchen. This strategic location will optimize plant efficiency by integrating raw materials from the refinery and cracker complex. Additionally, the site benefits from the Marl harbor waterway connection.

Long-term Supply Security

Construction of the plant aims to secure the supply of raw materials to INEOS’ phenol and acetone plants in Gladbeck and Antwerp for decades. This investment underscores the company's commitment to meeting long-term customer needs.

Industry Impact

INEOS Phenol is the world’s largest producer of phenol and acetone and the largest consumer of cumene, a crucial raw material. The new facility will play a significant role in the chemical cluster of the northern Ruhr Area, enhancing the overall Verbund structure.
