Introduction of DEB Technology

IFF has introduced its Designed Enzymatic Biomaterials (DEB) technology, aimed at developing scalable, biobased materials. This technology offers sustainability benefits with performance on par with or better than fossil-based materials, addressing the demand for eco-friendly, high-performance biopolymers.

Applications and Benefits

DEB technology allows manufacturers to meet regulatory changes and consumer demands by replacing traditional fossil-based synthetic polymers. It enables the creation of biopolymers with the functional properties of petroleum-based polymers, customized for various applications in home care, personal care, fabric care, and industrial markets.

Technological Advancements

DEB technology uses advanced biotechnology to produce unique polysaccharides at scale, with the accuracy and consistency of traditional industrial polymers. These biomaterials are derived from renewable raw materials, such as plant-based sugars, water, and enzymes, offering glycosidic linkage control and designed-in molecular weights and morphology.

Personal Care Applications

AURIST™ AGC, the first personal care ingredient enabled by DEB technology, improves wet and dry combability in haircare products and is a biodegradable alternative to synthetic ingredients. It won the gold award in the functional ingredients category at the 2023 in-cosmetics Global Innovation Zone Best Ingredient Award.

Home Care Applications

Lyrature™ is a family of customizable, high-performance biopolymers designed for 100% biodegradable detergents and cleansers. DEB technology can be used as cleaning polymers, rheology modifiers, and emulsion stabilizers.

Industrial Applications

Nuvolve™ engineered polysaccharides are being developed for performance-enhancing applications in textiles, packaging, paper, board, non-wovens, and performance composites. These solutions meet industry specifications typically expected from fossil-derived products but not met by traditional biomaterials.
