Honeywell Technologies to supply UOP process tech for Hengyi’s PMB Phase II
- Honeywell Technologies UOP will supply process technologies, licensing, engineering, proprietary equipment, catalysts and technical support for Hengyi’s Pulau Muara Besar (PMB) Phase II.
- Phase II will include hydrocracking, an aromatics complex and dehydrogenation units expected to be among the world’s largest, taking PMB to approximately 20 million metric tons of annual crude-processing capacity.
- UOP solutions to be deployed include CCR Platforming™, Unicracking™, Unionfining™, Butamer™, C4 Oleflex™ and a full Aromatics Complex based on Parex™ light desorbent technology.
- Honeywell and Hengyi worked together in Phase I, when Honeywell provided process technologies, engineering design, key equipment, catalysts and adsorbents, operator training and technical services for start-up and ongoing operations.
Deal overview
Honeywell Technologies will provide UOP process technologies, licensing, engineering, proprietary equipment, catalysts and technical support to Hengyi Industries for Phase II of the Pulau Muara Besar petrochemical project in Brunei.
Scope and technologies
Planned Phase II units include hydrocracking, an aromatics complex and dehydrogenation facilities that the companies say will be among the world’s largest of their kind. Phase II is expected to raise PMB’s crude-processing capacity to approximately 20 million metric tons annually. Named UOP solutions to be deployed include CCR Platforming™, Unicracking™, Unionfining™, Butamer™, C4 Oleflex™ and a full Aromatics Complex built around Parex™ light desorbent technology.
Past cooperation and expected impact
Honeywell and Hengyi previously collaborated on PMB Phase I, where Honeywell provided technologies, engineering design, key equipment, catalysts and adsorbents, plus operator training and technical services for start-up and continuing operations. Honeywell said its long experience in energy-sector technologies will help PMB improve efficiency and reliability and position the complex to diversify into higher-value petrochemicals. Hengyi stated the Phase I implementation helped strengthen its integrated refining and petrochemical value chain and support Brunei’s downstream development goals.
