Transaction
GRILLO-Werke AG has divested Metra Non‑Ferrous Metals Ltd. to financial investor Hypax GmbH. Closing took place at the end of April.
Metra background
Metra was founded in 1974 from the remnants of the last zinc rolling mill still operating in the United Kingdom, taking on the task of supplying a small market of traditional roofers and metal fabricators with non‑ferrous metals.
Over time, Metra came into the ownership of GRILLO-Werke AG and gained access to a broad product portfolio — including specialist zinc alloys, wire, sheet and coil — which strengthened its market position.
Strategic rationale
The divestiture is part of GRILLO’s strategic transformation to focus resources and energy on its core industrial businesses of zinc and sulphur chemistry. GRILLO said Hypax will develop Metra as a standalone platform to unlock its full growth potential.
Corporate note
GRILLO described the decision as difficult for a family‑owned business and thanked those who supported the transaction.
