Test Results
INEOS, in partnership with iGas, conducted tests in the Bowland shale at Tinker Lane, Nottinghamshire. The tests revealed an average gas concentration of 60.7 standard cubic feet (scf) per tonne, surpassing the Barnett shale in Texas, which averages 39 scf per tonne.
Future Testing
While the initial findings are promising, it remains uncertain if a commercially viable resource has been discovered at Tinker Lane. Further tests are planned for Spring 2019 in the core area of the Bowland shale, where commercial drilling prospects are higher.
Economic Implications
The discovery of high gas levels in the Bowland shale could have significant economic implications for the UK, potentially leading to job creation and investment, similar to the impact seen in the US Barnett shale.
