Evonik Releases EPDs for Building Protection Products

Key highlights
  • EPDs cover PROTECTOSIL\u00ae BHN and CIT, used for water-repellent and corrosion protection.
  • EPDs align with European Construction Products Regulation, anticipating future mandates.
  • EPDs provide data for building LCAs, aiding planners and architects in decision-making.

Introduction

Evonik has released two Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for its building protection products through the Institute for Construction and Environment (IBU). These documents provide a transparent view of the environmental impact of the products throughout their life cycle.

Product Details

The EPDs cover PROTECTOSIL® BHN and CIT, which are part of Evonik's Smart Effects business line. PROTECTOSIL® BHN is a silane-based water-repellent for mineral surfaces, while PROTECTOSIL® CIT offers corrosion protection for reinforced concrete structures.

Industry Context

The construction industry is increasingly demanding clear environmental data, and the European Construction Products Regulation will soon require EPDs for certain products. Evonik's publication of these EPDs is a proactive step in meeting these upcoming requirements.

Benefits and Applications

These EPDs go beyond conventional life cycle assessments, providing the transparency needed for building certifications and material choices. They offer extensive data to support building life cycle assessments, aiding planners, architects, and project managers in making informed construction decisions.
