Investment and Capacity Expansion
Evonik is investing €400 million in Germany to increase its PA 12 production capacity by over 50%. The new PA 12 facility complex at the Marl Chemical Park is scheduled to start operations in the first half of 2021. This project will complement existing PA 12 production with additional plants for the polymer and its precursors.
Transparent Polyamide Production
In addition to the new PA 12 facility, Evonik is expanding its production of transparent polyamides at Marl. This expansion is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2020, doubling the company's overall capacity for this high-performance material.
Reorganization and Employee Transfer
As part of the reorganization, Evonik will discontinue the production and sale of polyphthalamide (PPA) at its Witten site by the end of the first quarter of 2020. Employees from the PPA plant will be transferred to the new PA 12 production facility in Marl, leveraging their experience in polymer production and compounding.
Site and Production Details
Evonik employs almost 300 people at the Witten site, which spans approximately 16 hectares and includes several production facilities for organic substances. The site is a major production hub for raw materials used in the paints, coatings, and adhesives industry. In 2018, a new production plant for specialty copolyesters was commissioned at Witten.
Biopolymers Portfolio
Biobased polymers from the Terra series will remain part of Evonik's product portfolio, complementing the reorganized range of high-performance polymers.
