Evonik Boosts Transparent Polyamide Production in Marl

Production Expansion

Due to increasing global demand for high-performance polymers, Evonik is expanding its production of transparent polyamides of the TROGAMID® CX brand at the Marl Chemical Park in Germany. The expansion is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2020 and will double the company's capacity for these materials.

Project Details

The expansion will be achieved through targeted debottlenecking efforts and comprehensive optimization initiatives. The plans for the project are complete, and implementation has already begun.

Market Demand

There is consistently high demand, especially in the consumer goods segment, for specialized material solutions that offer high transparency, quality, and design freedom along with excellent processing characteristics. The additional production capacity will support long-term customer growth.

Applications

TROGAMID® CX has been used for many years in sports, leisure, automotive, cosmetics, medical technology, and optical applications. It offers crystal-clear visibility, high UV protection, mechanical strength, and resistance to chemicals. In the automotive sector, it is known for its high transparency and scratch-resistance in interior applications.

New Developments

Evonik has recently developed a new polyamide molding compound for optical applications, TROGAMID® myCX high flow. This material offers crystal-clear transparency, excellent wear comfort, high durability, and improved processing capabilities, making it ideal for high-end lenses and visors.
