New Production Line

In October 2014, Evonik Industries opened a new production line for surface-treated fumed silica at its Rheinfelden, Germany site. This expansion increases their global production capacity for these products by 25%.

Applications and Market Trends

AEROSIL® specialty silica grades are crucial for enhancing high-performance adhesives, sealants, industrial resins, varnishes, and paints. The rising demand is driven by the development of resource-efficient products and technologies, including renewable energy sources and the automotive industry's shift towards higher performance bonding solutions.

Technical Benefits

Evonik's fumed special silica grades optimize rheology, viscosity, and thixotropy in liquid and gel-like formulations. They also improve the suspension properties of pigments and fillers, boost the flow rate of powdery products, and prevent caking during production and storage.

Production Capacity

With the new capacity online, Evonik's global annual production capacity for precipitated and fumed silica, metal oxides, and matting agents now exceeds 550,000 tons. This expansion supports various high-growth markets, including low rolling resistance tires.
