Elkem invests NOK 260m to replace furnace at Elkem Rana
- NOK 260 million approved to replace one of two furnaces and its off-gas equipment at Elkem Rana.

Investment and scope
Elkem ASA has approved NOK 260 million to replace one of the two furnaces and the associated off-gas equipment at its Elkem Rana plant in Northern Norway. The existing off-gas equipment has reached the end of its operational lifetime.
Timing and operations
Installation of the new furnace is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2027. The plant's second furnace will remain in normal operation during the installation to maintain production.
Technical objectives
The upgraded furnace will incorporate Elkem's latest proven technology to enhance operational reliability, process control and energy efficiency. It is also designed to further reduce dust and process emissions and to enable increased use of biocarbon in support of the company's climate ambitions.
Production and markets
Elkem Rana is a leading European ferrosilicon plant and supplier to steel, foundry and metallurgical industries. Across its two furnaces the plant produces about 80,000 tonnes of ferrosilicon and 15,000 tonnes of Microsilica annually.
