Dow and RDM Group launch Multiboard CirculaRR — food-contact packaging from 100% recycled fibre and recycled PE

Key highlights
  • Dow and RDM Group launched Multiboard CirculaRR, a paper packaging coated with about 5% polyethylene by weight and made entirely from recycled cartonboard and ISCC PLUS-certified recycled PE.
  • The board is ISEGA-certified for food contact and validated by 4evergreen as recyclable in mixed paper recycling streams, suitable for frozen foods, fruit trays and dry pet food.
  • It is produced at RDM's Fiskeby facility in Sweden, where the low polymer content supports processing within existing mixed-paper recycling systems.
  • The launch supports compliance with the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which requires packaging to be recyclable by 2030 and sets mandatory recycled plastic content targets.

Product

Multiboard CirculaRR is a plastic-coated paper packaging solution for food contact applications made exclusively from recycled cartonboard and recycled polyethylene, with the polymer layer representing about 5% by weight; suitable for frozen foods, fruit trays and dry pet food.

Materials and certifications

The PE component is ISCC PLUS certified and sourced via advanced recycling using a mass‑balance chain of custody; ISEGA testing confirms suitability for food contact. Advanced recycling is presented as a complement to mechanical recycling for hard‑to‑recycle plastic streams.

Recyclability and regulation

The board is designed for recyclability in established mixed‑paper recycling streams and has been independently assessed using 4evergreen protocols; the low polymer content supports processing in existing systems and aligns with EU PPWR goals, including the requirement that packaging be recyclable by 2030 and meet recycled plastic content targets.

Production and launch

The product builds on RDM Group’s Multiboard Barrier produced at the Fiskeby facility in Sweden and was developed in collaboration with Dow; prototypes will be shown at interpack 2026 in Düsseldorf (7–13 May).
