New Production Line in Barcelona

Covestro has launched a new production line for Desmodur® 15 prepolymers at its Barcelona site. This development aims to meet the increasing demand for high-performance elastomers and cater to a broader range of demanding applications.

Strategic Investment

According to Philip Bahke, Head of Operations at Covestro Elastomers, this strategic investment is designed to expand capacity and enhance the reliability of the global supply of Desmodur® 15 based products.

Renewable Energy Operations

Sucheta Govil, Chief Commercial Officer at Covestro, highlighted that the Barcelona site has been operating entirely on renewable energy since early 2022. This initiative aligns with Covestro's goal to reduce its environmental impact while improving customer access to its solutions and specialty products.

Global Expansion

Thomas Braig, Head of Covestro Elastomers, noted that the new production unit in Barcelona complements the ongoing expansion of NDI capacities in the Asia-Pacific region, specifically at the Map Ta Phut plant in Thailand. This expansion supports customer growth in high-end cast polyurethanes applications.

Support for Vulkollan® Licensees

Abdel Arhzaf, Head of NDI-Vulkollan®, explained that the new production line will enable Vulkollan® licensees to further develop their business. The investment aims to meet the demand for ultra-high-performance elastomers used in superior applications, such as material handling and various engineering applications.

Product Characteristics

Desmodur® 15 prepolymers combine high mechanical characteristics with dynamic load-bearing capacity. These elastomers are among the most powerful cast polyurethanes on the market and are as easy to process as conventional prepolymers.
