OGDC 2025 Status Report

The Oil & Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC) released its 2025 Status Report, highlighting progress in decarbonizing oil and gas operations. Since its launch at COP28, OGDC has grown to include 55 signatories, representing 40% of global oil production across more than 100 countries.

Emissions Data and Goals

This year, OGDC companies shared emissions data using the OGCI Reporting Framework, covering 98% of operated production. Total Scope 1 and 2 emissions were estimated at 1 billion tonnes of CO2e in 2024. The report shows that 42 signatories have set interim emissions reduction goals for 2030, with 36 developing action plans.

Investment in Low-Carbon Solutions

In 2024, OGDC signatories invested approximately $32 billion in low-carbon solutions, including renewables, carbon capture, hydrogen, and low-carbon fuels. This investment reflects the Charter's commitment to accelerating decarbonization efforts.

Capacity Building and Collaboration

OGDC's Collaborate & Share initiative has trained over 2,000 professionals across 50 companies, a tenfold increase from the previous year. The program focuses on peer-to-peer exchanges, regional partnerships, and technical workshops to strengthen capacities and scale practical solutions.

Future Commitments

OGDC aims to achieve net-zero operations by 2050, near-zero upstream methane emissions, and zero routine flaring by 2030. The Charter emphasizes transparent disclosure of emissions ambitions and progress, fostering collaboration among signatories to share best practices and harmonize reporting methodologies.
