Project Overview
The Congo LNG project has entered commercial production, marking a significant step in Eni's strategy to expand its presence in the global gas and LNG market. The project aims to leverage cost-competitive projects across diverse geographies.
Phase 2 Milestone
Phase 2 of the Congo LNG project has commenced, achieving a total liquefaction capacity of 3 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of LNG, equivalent to 4.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year. This phase utilizes gas resources from the Nené and Litchendjili fields in the offshore Marine XII license.
Execution and Timelines
The start-up of Phase 2 comes just 35 months after the construction of the Nguya FLNG unit began, setting a new benchmark in the industry for execution speed and efficiency. This follows the successful launch of Phase 1 with the Tango FLNG liquefaction unit in December 2023.
Strategic Goals
Eni aims to expand its LNG portfolio to 20 million tonnes per annum by 2030, enhancing its flexibility, competitiveness, and geographical diversification. The project is expected to contribute to Italian and European energy security while providing economic benefits to the local economy.
