Casale starts up 450 MTD DualPURE nitric acid plant for BorsodChem
- 450 MTD Weak Nitric Acid plant delivered using Casale's DualPURE™ dual‑pressure technology.
- First nitric acid was produced on 30 September 2026 after a start‑up sequence of approximately 12 hours and an initial 100 metric‑ton run.
- About 1,000 metric tons have been produced so far and process steam export to site utilities has commenced.
- Project was awarded in 2024 on a turnkey EPC basis, executed by Casale Project, and supported by the European Union Modernisation Fund.
Project delivery and start‑up
The 450 metric tons per day Weak Nitric Acid plant at BorsodChem's Ostrava site was awarded to Casale in 2024 on a turnkey EPC basis and executed by Casale Project under a fast‑track schedule. First production occurred on 30 September 2026; the start‑up sequence took approximately 12 hours and an initial production run yielded 100 metric tons. The plant has entered a planned stabilization and ramp‑up phase ahead of full‑capacity operation and the subsequent performance test.
Production and site integration
Approximately 1,000 metric tons of nitric acid have already been produced and are being used in BorsodChem's downstream facilities, notably its aniline production chain. Steam export from the new plant has also commenced, enabling energy integration with the site's existing industrial utilities.
Technology and energy recovery
The facility is based on Casale's DualPURE™ dual‑pressure nitric acid technology, designed to combine operational reliability, optimized energy performance, environmental features and safety. A key feature is the recovery and export of process steam to improve overall resource utilization.
Context and funding
The project supports modernization of the Ostrava operations and was implemented with support from the European Union Modernisation Fund. It adds to Casale's portfolio of nitric acid references and exemplifies the group's integrated technology and EPC delivery model.
