Project Overview

BorsodChem, part of the Chinese Wanhua group, is set to replace its 125 kt/year mercury-based chlorine unit in Kazincbarcika, Hungary, with a more energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly membrane plant. The project is scheduled for completion by December 2017. This upgrade will complement the existing 195 kt/year membrane unit, ensuring BorsodChem maintains its leading position in chlorine and caustic soda production in the region.

Production and Usage

The chlorine produced is used internally for manufacturing MDI, TDI, and PVC, while caustic soda is sold to various industries. To ensure a stable supply of caustic soda, a new 8000 m3 storage tank is under construction and will be operational from January 2015.

Investment Goals

These investments aim to secure sustainable production of raw materials and improve the quality of services provided by BorsodChem.
