BASF opens Global SAP and Diaper Performance Lab in Mumbai
- Inaugurated on 18 August 2026, the Global Technical Service Lab in Mumbai will serve superabsorbent customers worldwide.
- The facility offers more than 30 testing methods within a new 200 square‑meter lab area for SAP and diaper performance and benchmark testing.
- The lab was established in less than a year as part of BASF’s Innovation Campus Asia Pacific in Mumbai, the company’s second largest R&D site set up in 2017.

Overview
BASF inaugurated its Performance Lab for diapers and superabsorbents in Mumbai on 18 August 2026. The Global Technical Service Lab will provide technical and application services to superabsorbent customers worldwide and was established in less than a year as part of BASF’s Innovation Campus Asia Pacific in Mumbai, the company's second largest R&D site set up in 2017 under BASF Chemicals India Private Limited.
Capabilities
The facility comprises a new 200 square‑meter lab area able to perform more than 30 testing methods designed for SAP as well as diaper performance and benchmark testing. It is positioned to support co‑creation of superabsorbent solutions for baby diapers, adult incontinence products and feminine hygiene applications.
Positioning and network
The Mumbai lab is intended to strengthen technical support, application expertise and rapid customer‑focused collaboration in a high‑growth market to accelerate innovation and better address consumer and market needs. It will work in tandem with the existing Global Product Development Lab for superabsorbents in Ludwigshafen, Germany.
