BASF Expands Tinopal® CBS Production in Switzerland

Investment and Capacity Expansion

BASF is increasing production capacity for Tinopal® CBS optical brighteners at its Monthey, Switzerland site. The company is investing a double-digit million euro amount in existing plants to boost capacity stepwise until 2022, with the first additional capacities coming on stream in 2021.

Meeting Global Demand

This investment aims to meet the globally increasing customer demand for Tinopal® CBS. The optical brightener is used in liquid and powder detergents, single-unit dose, and industrial and institutional (I&I) products. It enhances the useful life of textiles by delivering brilliant white results even at low temperatures and with short wash cycles.

Product Applications

Tinopal® CBS is ideal for innovative product formats such as highly concentrated liquid detergents and single-unit-dose products. Additionally, Tinopal® CBS-X meets EU Ecolabel criteria, making it a sustainable choice for the home care and I&I industries.

Previous Investments

In response to high demand, BASF had already invested in extending the manufacturing facility for optical brighteners in Monthey in 2017. This previous investment included the installation of a state-of-the-art drying tower and a highly automated packing line.
