BASF, Ford and Supavut win SPE award for Ultramid PA6 bezels on 2026 Ford Everest
- Won the SPE Automotive Innovation Award in the materials category for 2026 Ford Everest interior door handle bezels.
- Bezels are paint-free, high-gloss and constructed as a single material to simplify end-of-life recovery.
- Injection molded by Supavut Thailand using BASF’s Ultramid® Deep Gloss D3K, a specialty PA6 blend.
- Material achieves Class-A, paint-free quality without rapid mold heating/cooling, enabling standard single-step injection processing.
Award and application
BASF, Ford and Supavut Thailand received the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) Automotive Innovation Award in the materials category for the interior door handle bezels on the 2026 Ford Everest.
Material and processing
The bezels use BASF’s Ultramid® Deep Gloss D3K, a specialty polyamide (PA6) blend that combines high-gloss aesthetics with mechanical performance. The paint-free application achieves a Class-A finish without requiring rapid heating or cooling during injection molding and is compatible with standard single-step injection processing.
Manufacturing and sustainability
Supavut Thailand injection molds the bezels. The single-material construction simplifies end-of-life material recovery. Project success was attributed to collaboration across material science, application development and manufacturing expertise.
