Expansion and purpose
BASF inaugurated an expansion of Alkyl Polyglucosides (APGs) production at its Cincinnati, Ohio site, a project first announced in 2023. The investment reinforces BASF's position as a leading APG supplier in the United States, strengthens regional manufacturing, and increases the company’s ability to supply customers from within North America while improving agility across its global production network. BASF says the expansion will help it work more closely with customers and support innovation and sustainability targets across applications.
Product characteristics and applications
APGs are bio-based, derived from 100 percent natural and renewable feedstocks. They are non-ionic, mild, and readily biodegradable according to OECD 301. Their performance and compatibility with other surfactants make them suitable for personal care, home care, industrial and institutional cleaning, industrial formulations, and agricultural applications.
Global manufacturing footprint
The Cincinnati expansion complements BASF's existing APG production sites in Düsseldorf, Germany; Jinshan, China; and Bangpakong, Thailand, forming a global manufacturing network intended to provide reliable supply and greater responsiveness to customer needs across regions.
