BASF adds three REDcert² biomass‑balanced additives for architectural coatings
- BASF launched three biomass‑balanced additives: Dispex® AA 4145 MB, Rheovis® PU 1333 MB and Rheovis® HS 1169 MB for architectural coatings.
- The new additives are REDcert² certified and, per BASF’s PCF methodology, offer a reduced product carbon footprint versus the respective conventional BASF additives.
- BMB production in BASF’s Verbund replaces 100% of the fossil raw materials required to make the product with certified renewable resources; renewable content is attributed by an externally certified mass‑balance approach.
- Products deliver the same properties as conventional variants — Dispex AA 4145 MB for pigment wetting; Rheovis PU 1333 MB and Rheovis HS 1169 MB for controlled rheology and application — and are available globally with BASF technical support.
New products
BASF expanded its biomass‑balanced (BMB) additives portfolio with Dispex® AA 4145 MB, Rheovis® PU 1333 MB and Rheovis® HS 1169 MB for architectural coatings.
Certification & carbon footprint
The additives are certified under REDcert² and, according to BASF’s product carbon footprint (PCF) methodology, offer a reduced product carbon footprint compared with the respective conventional BASF additives. Product carbon footprint (PCF) is the sum of greenhouse gas emissions and removals of selected processes in a product system, expressed as CO2 equivalents, per ISO 14067:2018.
Technology & performance
The BMB variants have the same properties as conventionally produced products: Dispex AA 4145 MB supports optimized pigment wetting for high‑quality finishes, while Rheovis PU 1333 MB and Rheovis HS 1169 MB provide controlled rheology and application behavior across a wide range of formulations, enabling lower‑emission formulations without reformulation.
Mass balance approach & availability
In BASF’s Verbund production, 100% of the fossil raw materials required to produce the BMB products are replaced by certified renewable resources and the renewable share is attributed to the final product via an externally certified mass‑balance chain of custody; the new products are available globally and supported by BASF technical expertise.
