Event Overview

BASF is set to present its latest advancements in polyurethane materials and recycling methods for the footwear industry at SIMAC Tanning Tech, held from September 23-25, 2025, in Milan, Italy. The focus will be on sustainable solutions and innovative processing techniques.

Circular Economy Initiatives

BASF emphasizes the importance of circularity in the footwear industry. The introduction of meltable PU allows for mechanical recycling of shoe components. The new TPU Elastollan® RC, with up to 100% recycled content, is designed for creating new shoe parts. Additionally, ChemCycling® technology utilizes end-of-life tires and mixed plastic waste to achieve up to 100% recycled feedstock.

Innovative Material Developments

The Elastopan® SpringPURe portfolio offers lightweight yet durable PU materials, suitable for various footwear applications. These materials support diverse production methods, including direct injection and classic casting. Collaboration with Stemma S.R.L. integrates SpringPURe with NUCLEOOS technology for advanced chemical-physical foaming, resulting in lighter midsoles.

Automated Manufacturing Advancements

BASF's partnership with Desma Schuhmaschinen GmbH aims to enhance automated footwear production. The collaboration focuses on design flexibility and lightweight comfort, featuring direct soling with Elastopan® SpringPURe midsoles and robust Elastollan® TPU film outsoles. The integration of Infinergy® offers dynamic elasticity and energy return, while Desma’s SCF machine streamlines production for ultra-light midsoles.
