Project and timeline

BASF Agricultural Solutions is investing a low double-digit million-euro amount in a new Climate Center at its Limburgerhof headquarters. Construction has started and is scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2027.

Purpose and capabilities

The purpose-built facility will house state-of-the-art climate chambers designed to provide precisely controlled environmental conditions. By regulating temperature, humidity and light, the centre will enable reproducible, scientifically robust and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)-compliant ecotoxicology studies to support the registration of crop protection products worldwide, while improving planning reliability, data quality and study capacity.

Research focus

Some climate chambers will be dedicated to insecticide research; controlled environmental conditions will be used to produce insect populations needed for early-stage screening and discovery programmes that feed future crop protection innovation.

Strategic impact

The investment is intended to strengthen the Limburgerhof Agricultural Center as a global hub for agricultural research, expanding infrastructure to boost scientific capabilities, regulatory support, competitiveness and talent attraction.
