ARLANXEO and Covestro reduce Baypren GWP using ISCC PLUS chlorine
- As of January 2026, ARLANXEO’s entire chloroprene rubber production uses ISCC PLUS-certified chlorine supplied by Covestro.
- The transition yields an average reduction in global warming potential (GWP) of approximately 20% compared with 2025 levels, varying by product grade.
- Covestro’s ISCC PLUS-certified chlorine is produced using electricity from renewable sources at its certified production sites.
- ARLANXEO can offer Baypren Eco grades that combine ISCC PLUS-certified chlorine and ISCC PLUS-certified butadiene for further reductions, targeting automotive, construction, industrial and adhesive markets.
Agreement and timeline
ARLANXEO and Covestro expanded their cooperation so ARLANXEO’s chloroprene rubber (CR) production now uses ISCC PLUS-certified chlorine supplied by Covestro. The company reports that the conversion of its entire CR production was completed as of January 2026.
Effect on environmental footprint
Using ISCC PLUS-certified chlorine produced with renewable electricity reduces the product environmental footprint (PEF) of the Baypren® portfolio. ARLANXEO states an average global warming potential reduction of approximately 20% versus 2025 levels, with variation depending on specific product grades.
Supply and certification
Covestro supplies ISCC PLUS-certified chlorine from its multiple certified production sites, emphasizing the role of certified raw materials and renewable electricity in lowering emissions along the value chain.
Products and target markets
