ANDRITZ commissions second hydrochloric acid regeneration plant for JSW Steel Coated Products
- New plant processes 6,400 liters of spent pickling acid per hour.
- Regenerated acid now covers approximately 99% of pickling operations' acid requirements.
- Installed to support a new pickling line with 1.3 million tonnes/year capacity.
- Iron oxide by-product is recovered and sold for other industrial applications.
Project summary
ANDRITZ has commissioned a second hydrochloric acid regeneration plant at JSW Steel Coated Products' Vasind Works in Maharashtra. The plant uses ANDRITZ’s hydrochloric acid regeneration technology to recover and reuse spent pickling acid and to produce iron oxide as a by-product.
Capacity and role
The new unit has a processing capacity of 6,400 liters of spent pickling acid per hour and was installed to meet additional regeneration requirements resulting from a new pickling line with an annual processing capacity of 1.3 million tonnes. Together with the existing plant, the two units now serve the Vasind pickling operations.
Performance and environmental impact
After start-up and performance validation the plant achieved stable operation and met required process and environmental parameters. The closed-loop process substantially reduces waste generation and minimizes the need for fresh acid, with regenerated acid covering approximately 99% of the pickling operations' acid requirements; the iron oxide by-product is sold for other industrial uses.
Client context
JSW Steel Coated Products, a wholly owned subsidiary of JSW Steel Limited, produces cold-rolled, galvanized and other value-added steel products at the Vasind Works.
