Investment and Construction
Air Liquide and PAO Severstal have signed a new long-term contract for oxygen supply at the Severstal CherMK site in Russia. Air Liquide will invest around 60 million euros to construct a state-of-the-art Air Separation Unit (ASU) at the site, which is one of the largest oxygen production locations in continental Europe. This new unit will be the fourth ASU owned by Air Liquide at Cherepovets.
Production Capacity
The new ASU will produce 1,000 tons of oxygen per day, bringing the total production capacity at the Cherepovets site to over 8,000 tons of oxygen per day. The unit is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2023 and will be owned and operated by Air Liquide Severstal, a joint venture established in 2005 between Air Liquide (75%) and Severstal (25%).
Energy Efficiency and Environmental Impact
This new ASU will feature enhanced energy efficiency, contributing to a reduced overall environmental footprint. As part of the agreement, both companies have committed to further reducing CO2 emissions from oxygen production, aligning with Air Liquide’s climate change commitments and Severstal’s environmental and climate strategy.
