ADNOC partners with OpenAI and G42 to deploy OpenAI Frontier across its energy value chain

Key highlights
  • Multi‑year partnership between ADNOC, OpenAI and G42 to deploy OpenAI Frontier on UAE sovereign AI infrastructure.
  • Initial focus on two applications: integrated field master planning using decades of subsurface data across thousands of wells, and real‑time valuation of every barrel while still in the ground.
  • Solutions will combine OpenAI frontier models with ADNOC proprietary data, G42 infrastructure, and human oversight, and include cyber defences via OpenAI’s Daybreak Blue.
  • ADNOC already runs 200+ AI applications and 70 robotics use cases, rolled out ChatGPT Enterprise to 40,000 employees (97% adoption); ENERGYai is a 70‑billion‑parameter model trained on 50+ years of ADNOC data.

Partnership scope

ADNOC signed a multi‑year agreement with OpenAI and G42 to deploy OpenAI’s Frontier platform across its operations, becoming the first energy company to adopt this technology at scale. The signing was witnessed by His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. ADNOC says the intent is to connect intelligence across the business so operational, capital and commercial decisions are coordinated rather than sequential.

Initial applications

The programme will begin with two high‑value use cases: converting field master planning into a single integrated decision that uses decades of data across thousands of wells and hundreds of surface facilities, and a capability to value every barrel while it remains in the ground by linking production, processing, refining, logistics, sales and trading.

Technology, governance and security

Partners will combine OpenAI’s frontier models with ADNOC’s proprietary industrial data, deploy on G42’s sovereign AI infrastructure in the UAE, and retain human oversight for consequential decisions. The agreement also includes cyber defence support via OpenAI’s Daybreak Blue.

Existing AI footprint and workforce

The deal builds on ADNOC’s existing AI estate—more than 200 AI applications and 70 robotics use cases—and its rollout of ChatGPT Enterprise to 40,000 employees (reported 97% adoption). ENERGYai, developed with AIQ, is cited as a 70‑billion‑parameter model trained on over 50 years of ADNOC data.
