Investment and Expansion

INEOS has announced a £60 million investment to expand its Grangemouth site. The expansion includes the construction of an additional furnace on the KG ethylene plant, awarded to Selas-Linde GmbH, Germany.

Project Timeline

Subject to planning approval, preparatory project work will begin later in 2018. Main construction is scheduled to start in 2019, with commissioning expected towards the end of 2020.

Strategic Importance

This investment aims to improve the efficiency and increase the production capacity of the plant, ensuring the business can meet growing demand for its products. The addition of a tenth furnace will provide a range of future opportunities for the site and the broader manufacturing regions in Scotland and the North East and North West of England.

Background

The project follows the successful completion in 2016 of a long-term agreement to supply the Grangemouth plant with US shale gas ethane. This supply has revitalized the plant, providing the necessary raw materials for continued operation and expansion.
