Investment and Capacity Expansion
Specialty chemicals company LANXESS is set to expand the capacity for Macrolex dyes at its Leverkusen site. The investment, exceeding five million euros, aims to boost current production capacity by 25%, with the increased capacity expected to be available by the end of 2018.
Meeting Global Demand
Philipp Junge, head of LANXESS’s Rhein Chemie business unit, highlighted the expansion as a response to the growing global demand for high-quality dyes in the plastics industry, particularly noting significant demand increases in Asia. Dominik Risse, responsible for the Colorant Additives Business at LANXESS, pointed out the need to meet stricter regulatory requirements, especially for high-purity products.
Commitment to Leverkusen
The investment also underscores LANXESS's commitment to the Leverkusen site, with the expansion expected to create additional jobs at Chempark Leverkusen. The Macrolex brand's soluble, organic dyes are primarily used for coloring high-quality plastic products such as beverage bottles, electronic devices, car taillights, and children’s toys.
Product Applications
Macrolex dyes are utilized in various plastics, including polystyrene (PS), polycarbonate (PC), acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), and polyethylene terephthalate (PET). The LANXESS Colorant Additives Business offers a portfolio of 150 products, serving over 800 customers worldwide with colorants and pigments for diverse applications, from liquid crystal displays to writing instruments.
