Dow Expands Methyl Cellulose Capacity in Germany

Capacity Expansion

Dow announced incremental investments to increase methyl cellulose production capacity at its facilities in Bomlitz and Bitterfeld, Germany. This expansion is part of a multi-phase investment plan aimed at supporting the growing demand in the construction chemicals sector.

Production Increase

The capacity increase will add 19,000 metric tons to Dow’s production of WALOCEL™ and METHOCEL™ cellulose ethers. These products are essential additives in various construction applications, including tile adhesives, grouts, fillers, levellers, joint compounds, and more.

Timeline

The new production capacities are scheduled to come online in 2019 and 2020, ensuring a reliable supply of high-quality cellulose ether products to meet customer requirements.

Applications

Dow’s cellulose ethers are used in a wide range of construction applications, such as reinforcing and bonding mortars for External Thermal Insulation Composite Systems (ETICS), gypsum plasters, and cement-based renders. These products help enhance performance and meet the evolving needs of the construction industry.
