Expansion Overview
Emerald Kalama Chemical has completed a $40 million expansion at its Rotterdam, Netherlands site. This expansion enhances the company's global capabilities, manufacturing flexibility, and capacity for Purox® B Benzoic Acid, Kalama® Benzaldehyde, and downstream products like Kalama® Hexyl Cinnamic Aldehyde (HCA) and Kalama® Amyl Cinnamic Aldehyde (ACA).
Strategic Vision
The additional operations in Rotterdam support Emerald's strategic vision to maintain a world leadership position in benzoic acid, benzaldehyde, and downstream products such as HCA. The project significantly expands capacity and enhances Emerald's global footprint and backward integration in key raw materials.
Global Investments
Over the last 24 months, Emerald has made key investments in the U.S., Netherlands, and UK to increase capabilities across its portfolio, improve supply chain and logistics, and provide customers with the benefit of dual production locations for key aroma chemicals like HCA. Emerald is the only global producer manufacturing HCA and ACA in both North America and Europe.
Production Capabilities
The Rotterdam expansion supports Emerald's Widnes (UK) plant with additional benzaldehyde capacity, further increasing global HCA and ACA capabilities. The newly expanded facilities in Rotterdam are now fully operational, producing the highest purity grade of benzoic acid available on the market, with a minimum assay of 99.98%.
Product Applications
Kalama® and Purox® benzoates, Benzoic Acid, and Benzyl Alcohol are used in preservative applications for foods, beverages, pharmaceuticals, and personal care products. Kalama® Benzaldehyde adds flavor and fragrance to foods, beverages, personal and home care products, and cosmetics. Kalama® HCA and ACA are key aroma chemicals used extensively in perfumes, soaps, detergents, fabric softeners, cosmetics, and personal care products.
