Investment and Timeline
BASF Polyurethanes GmbH has initiated a new growth phase at its Lemförde site under the project "Lemförde 2025." The construction work, which includes a new production line for thermoplastic polyurethane and a new dispatch hall, will take roughly two years. The investment sum reaches an average double-digit million figure.
New Production Line
The new production line for thermoplastic polyurethane, branded as Elastollan®, will expand the existing production complex. This is the largest individual investment ever made by BASF at the Lemförde site. The new building, covering a total area of 8,600 square meters, will include production, storage, tanks, silos, and office space. Completion and commencement of production are scheduled for the end of 2018.
Dispatch Hall
The second major investment is a new dispatch and picking hall to support the growing quantities of plastic finished products. The modular construction building will have an area of 1,200 square meters and a floor space of 15,000 cubic meters. Commissioning is scheduled for mid-2018, with process handling and later operation managed by the existing logistics staff.
Infrastructure Upgrades
Accompanying infrastructure measures include modifications to the employee and truck parking area, the construction of a new rainwater retention basin, and improvements to internal factory traffic. All construction works are being carried out by regional companies. To manage construction traffic safely, the northern entrance of the secondary road "In den Kämpen" has been closed for public transit traffic for the duration of the construction activities, in coordination with local authorities.
