Investment and Expansion
Kemira invested approximately EUR 50 million in a new production line for sodium chlorate at its Joutseno site. This expansion, announced in March 2016, was completed slightly ahead of schedule.
Project Scale and Employment
The new production line is one of the largest manufacturing site investments in Finland in recent years and South Karelia’s second-largest industrial project in 2016–2017. The construction phase employed 200 people at its peak.
Technological Advancements
The new production line utilizes Kemira’s own patented technology, nearly doubling the site's production capacity. Approximately 10 sodium chlorate trucks are dispatched daily to both domestic and international destinations.
Market Demand
The expansion aims to meet the increasing demand for bleaching chemicals driven by recent pulp mill expansions and new greenfield projects in the Nordics.
