New PAG Plant in Ludwigshafen
BASF has announced the construction of a new plant for polyalkylene glycol (PAG)-based lubricants at its Ludwigshafen site. The facility is set to begin operations by early 2016 and will produce PAG lubricant base stocks and formulated blends.
Investment and Integration
This double-digit million euro investment aims to support the global growth of synthetic lubricant formulators. The new production unit will be fully integrated into BASF’s largest Verbund site in Ludwigshafen, ensuring backward integration into key raw materials such as ethylene oxide and propylene oxide.
Enhanced Supply Security
The new facility will enhance the security of supply for BASF’s customers in the lubricant industry. This strategic move aligns with BASF’s goal to be a leading supplier of synthetic lubricant solutions.
Applications of PAG Base Stocks
PAG base stocks produced at the new plant will be used in various applications, including gear oils, compressor oils, metalworking applications, and fire-resistant hydraulic fluids.
