Grupa Azoty ZAK Completes €14m Energy Projects in Poland

At a glance
  • Two projects worth €14m were completed at the Ammonia Department.
  • The first project involved upgrading the partial combustion unit, replacing a burner.
  • The second project included designing and constructing the interior of the E-102 boiler and E-117 steam superheater.
  • Two more projects remain: installing a new oxygen compressor and building a peak-load and reserve boiler house.

Project Overview

Grupa Azoty ZAK has completed two significant energy projects under its New Energy Concept, a key capital investment program. These projects, valued at €14 million, aim to enhance production and improve energy and raw material efficiency.

Ammonia Department Upgrades

The projects were executed at the Ammonia Department, focusing on increasing ammonia production. The first project involved upgrading the partial combustion unit, including the replacement of a burner in the partial combustion reactor. This upgrade will lower the steam-to-carbon ratio during hydrogen production, extend the useful life of catalysts, and reduce emissions.

Boiler and Superheater Enhancements

The second project entailed the design and construction of the interior of the E-102 boiler and the E-117 steam superheater. These enhancements will increase the flexibility and safety of the processes within the boiler and steam superheater unit by using heat-resistant materials.

Future Projects

Two additional projects remain under the New Energy Concept: the purchase and installation of a new oxygen compressor in the Ammonia Department and the construction of a peak-load and reserve boiler house in the Energy Business Unit. These projects are expected to further improve energy efficiency and production capabilities.
