Wabash Valley Resources, LLC is a privately held Delaware limited liability company founded in 2016 and headquartered in West Terre Haute, Indiana. It is developing a major low-carbon ammonia fertilizer project by repurposing an idled coal gasification plant at the site. The facility is designed to produce approximately 500,000 metric tons of anhydrous ammonia per year using coal from a nearby Southern Indiana mine and petcoke as feedstock, integrated with carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology.

The project will capture and permanently sequester roughly 1.65 million tons of CO2 annually through geological storage, positioning it as one of the largest carbon sinks in the United States. It aims to supply cost-competitive fertilizer primarily to farmers and cooperatives in the Eastern Corn Belt, reducing U.S. reliance on imports from Canada, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and Russia while supporting domestic food and national security.

Wabash Valley Resources is an affiliate of Phibro LLC, with Phibro as a significant shareholder. The company has received substantial support, including a $1.559 billion loan from the U.S. Department of Energy closed in October 2025 as part of a total project investment of approximately $2.6 billion. When operational, expected around 2028, the plant will employ about 125 permanent staff and create hundreds of construction jobs. It represents a pioneering effort in the U.S. chemical and fertilizer industry to combine traditional gasification with CCS for lower-emission production.
