United Resource Recovery Corporation (URRC) is a privately held process technology company specializing in the development, manufacturing, and licensing of advanced recycling technologies for polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastics.
Founded in 1992 and headquartered in Spartanburg, South Carolina, the company initially provided services for silver recovery from photographic film and X-rays before transitioning its focus to plastics recycling in the mid-2000s. Its flagship innovation is the patented UnPET (or Hybrid UnPET) process, which chemically super-cleans post-consumer PET flakes through partial depolymerization and surface treatment to produce high-quality, food-grade recycled PET resin suitable for bottle-to-bottle applications under FDA specifications.
URRC has collaborated closely with The Coca-Cola Company since 1996 on technology commercialization, resulting in a joint venture (New United Resource Recovery Corporation or NURRC) that operated a major recycling facility in Spartanburg capable of processing up to 100 million pounds of PET annually. The company licenses its UnPET technology to operators worldwide, including Veolia PET Germany GmbH for European facilities, as well as sites in Mexico, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, the Philippines, and the United Kingdom.
URRC maintains its headquarters and R&D operations in the United States while positioning itself as a leader in sustainable polyester recycling solutions for the packaging and chemical industries. Its technology emphasizes energy and water efficiency, enabling the production of low-cost, high-purity rPET from collected bottles and containers.
