Th. Goldschmidt AG (Goldschmidt AG) is a historic German specialty chemicals company founded in 1847 by Theodor Goldschmidt in Berlin and later based in Essen. Over time, it developed strong capabilities in surface and materials chemistry, producing specialty surfactants, silicone-based additives, and other formulation ingredients used in personal care, household and industrial cleaning, coatings, polymers, textiles, and metal treatment.
A major scientific contribution associated with the company is the aluminothermic “thermite” process developed by Hans Goldschmidt in the late 19th century, applied in metal production and welding. In 1999, Goldschmidt became part of Degussa; its activities today are integrated within Evonik Industries (including Evonik Goldschmidt GmbH), where the Goldschmidt legacy continues as part of a broader specialty chemicals portfolio.
