Terrafame Ltd is a Finnish mining and chemical company operating an integrated mine-to-chemicals site in Sotkamo, Kainuu. The company extracts multi-metal ores and produces battery-grade nickel sulphate and cobalt sulphate used in electric vehicle cathode materials. Terrafame’s process is based on bioheapleaching and downstream hydrometallurgy, and it also recovers zinc and other metals as part of its flowsheet.
The integrated setup—combining ore mining, beneficiation, and battery chemicals production on a single industrial site—aims to improve resource efficiency and traceability across the supply chain. Terrafame supplies customers in the battery materials and automotive value chains, with operations subject to Finnish and EU environmental and industrial regulations. The company’s majority owner is Finnish Minerals Group, which develops Finland’s battery value chain.
