The Sydney Clinical Trials Centre (CTC) is a flagship research institution within the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney, specializing in the design, delivery, analysis, and translation of high-quality clinical trials. Established in 1988 as Australia’s first national clinical trials centre under the original name NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre, it provides end-to-end expertise across the trial lifecycle, including methodological development, project management, data systems, biostatistics, health economics, quality assurance, and advanced analytics.
CTC conducts and coordinates complex, multi-centre trials in diverse therapeutic areas such as oncology, cardiovascular disease, maternal and newborn health, infectious diseases, and chronic conditions. It partners with global pharmaceutical companies, government agencies, health systems, academic collaborators, and consumers to generate robust, regulatory-ready evidence that informs clinical guidelines, shapes health policy, and improves patient outcomes worldwide. The centre operates with a global reach across more than 40 countries and maintains strong national and international trial networks.
As part of the University of Sydney, CTC emphasizes equity, consumer involvement, and scientific excellence. It also leads the Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry (ANZCTR), a WHO primary registry promoting research transparency. With over 120 staff, it is recognized as a leader in trial methodology and operational excellence in Australia and internationally.
