Its role Owner
The Saudi Water Authority (SWA) serves as Saudi Arabia's central governmental authority for regulating and developing the national water sector. It oversees water production, treatment, transmission, and distribution activities while advancing the National Water Strategy and Saudi Vision 2030 objectives.
Established in 2024 through the transformation of the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) under Cabinet Resolution No. 918, SWA holds public legal personality and financial independence, linked to the Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture. Its transitional operational arm manages desalination assets, including major plants along the Red Sea and Arabian Gulf coasts.
SWA operates facilities producing over 7.5 million cubic meters of desalinated water daily, contributing to the Kingdom's position as the world's largest desalinated water producer. It emphasizes sustainable technologies such as reverse osmosis, energy efficiency, brine recovery, and renewable energy integration. The authority also regulates service providers, issues licenses, monitors compliance, and promotes local content and innovation through research institutes like WTIIRA.
Headquartered in Riyadh, SWA collaborates with entities such as the Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) and National Water Company. It focuses on water security, environmental protection, capacity building, and economic enablement, positioning Saudi Arabia as a global leader in water management and desalination technology.
