Its role Owner
SK On Tennessee is the U.S. operating subsidiary of SK On Co., Ltd., a leading South Korean manufacturer of advanced lithium-ion batteries and related technologies. Established in May 2026 as a standalone entity, it assumed full ownership and operation of the former BlueOval SK joint venture battery cell plant following the dissolution of the partnership with Ford Motor Company.
The company operates a large-scale lithium-ion battery cell manufacturing facility spanning approximately four million square feet on Ford’s BlueOval City campus in Stanton, Haywood County, West Tennessee. This plant is designed to produce battery cells for electric vehicle applications as well as energy storage systems (ESS), with commercial production targeted for 2028. The facility supports SK On’s broader North American strategy while maintaining a strategic supply partnership with Ford.
As a wholly owned subsidiary, SK On Tennessee draws on the parent company’s global expertise in battery innovation, with SK On maintaining other U.S. operations such as SK Battery America in Georgia and additional manufacturing sites in Asia and Europe. The restructuring provides greater operational autonomy, enabling faster decision-making and pursuit of a wider customer base in the evolving battery market.
In the competitive lithium-ion battery industry, SK On Tennessee serves as a key U.S. production base for SK On, contributing to the supply chain for mobility and stationary energy solutions amid growing demand for sustainable technologies.
