Shougang Group Co., Ltd. is a major state-owned steel producer and diversified enterprise group headquartered in Beijing, China. Founded in 1919 as the Shijingshan Steel Plant, it is one of China's oldest steel companies and has grown into a large-scale operation with nearly 500 subsidiaries and total assets exceeding CNY 500 billion.
The company's core activities center on steel manufacturing, with an annual production capacity of more than 35 million tons, emphasizing high-end products including automotive steel sheets, electrical steel, tinplate, and medium and heavy plates. It also engages in iron ore and coking coal mining, real estate development, environmental services, urban renewal, and financial services. Key steel operations are now located at coastal facilities such as the Jingtang base in Caofeidian, Hebei Province, following relocation from Beijing for environmental reasons.
Shougang operates internationally with subsidiaries in Peru (iron ore mining), Hong Kong, Singapore, and other regions, holding offshore assets of nearly CNY 60 billion. It is owned primarily by the Beijing municipal government under the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission and employs approximately 90,000 people. The group has been listed in the Fortune Global 500 multiple times and ranks among China's leading steel producers.
In addition to traditional steelmaking, Shougang is involved in urban transformation projects, such as redeveloping its former Beijing site into Shougang Park, and pursues green initiatives including decarbonization technologies like carbon capture at its blast furnace operations.
