Shah Deniz Gas and Condensate Field

About Shah Deniz Gas and Condensate Field

Shah Deniz Gas and Condensate Field is a major offshore natural gas and condensate development in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea. It is one of the largest gas fields in the region and a cornerstone of Azerbaijan’s upstream industry, supplying sizeable volumes of natural gas and associated condensate.

The field has been developed in phases, with initial production expanded through a large second-stage project that added offshore platforms and subsea infrastructure tied to onshore processing at the Sangachal Terminal near Baku. Gas from Shah Deniz is transported via the Southern Gas Corridor—comprising the South Caucasus Pipeline, the Trans-Anatolian Pipeline, and the Trans Adriatic Pipeline—providing supply to Türkiye and multiple European markets. The project is operated by bp on behalf of an international consortium that includes SOCAR and other partners, and it plays a key role in regional energy security and diversification of gas supplies.
