Its role Owner
Saudi Ethylene and Polyethylene Company (SEPC) is a major petrochemical producer operating in Al Jubail Industrial City in Saudi Arabia. The company runs an integrated petrochemical complex that includes an ethylene cracker with annual capacities of 1 million tonnes of ethylene and 285,000 tonnes of propylene, as well as dedicated plants for high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and low-density polyethylene (LDPE), each with 400,000 tonnes per year capacity.
SEPC was established as a joint venture between Tasnee Sahara Olefins Company (TSOC), holding 75 percent, and LyondellBasell, with 25 percent ownership. TSOC is controlled by Tasnee with a 60 percent stake and Sipchem with approximately 32.5 percent. The facility utilizes LyondellBasell technologies such as Hostalen ACP for multimodal HDPE and Lupotech T for LDPE production.
The company focuses on the production and supply of olefins and polyolefins for various industrial applications, serving markets across the Middle East, Europe, and Asia. SEPC is actively expanding its ethylene cracker operations through a project valued at around $500 million, aimed at boosting olefins output by 18 percent, with trial production commencing in 2026.
As part of Saudi Arabia's growing petrochemical sector, SEPC plays a significant role in the Jubail industrial ecosystem, contributing to the Kingdom's strategy for value-added downstream processing of hydrocarbon resources under the oversight of its parent entities.
