Samruk-Energy

Samruk-Energy JSC (АО «Самрук-Энерго») is Kazakhstan's largest state-owned diversified energy holding company, a subsidiary of the Samruk-Kazyna sovereign wealth fund. Vertically integrated across the power sector, it manages electricity and heat generation, transmission, distribution, sales, and thermal coal mining.

Key assets include major power plants such as Ekibastuz GRES-1 and GRES-2, hydropower stations like Moynak HPP and Shardara HPP, the coal producer Bogatyr Coal LLP, and renewable energy facilities through subsidiaries like Qazaq Green Power. It holds about 30% of Kazakhstan's installed power capacity (around 7,345 MW), generates roughly 33% of the country's electricity, and produces over 38% of its coal.

Founded in 2007 and headquartered in Astana, Samruk-Energy focuses on modernizing infrastructure, enhancing energy security, and developing renewables, including stakes in projects like the Mirny wind farm.
