ROGESA Roheisen- und Rohstoffgesellschaft Saar mbH is a joint subsidiary of AG der Dillinger Hüttenwerke (Dillinger) and Saarstahl AG, with each shareholder holding 50% of the shares directly or indirectly. It forms part of the SHS – Stahl-Holding-Saar Group and operates primarily at the Dillingen site in Saarland, Germany.
Founded in 1981, the company produces up to 4.6 million tonnes of hot metal (pig iron) annually using multiple blast furnaces. This output is supplied exclusively to its two parent companies for further processing into steel products. In addition to hot metal, ROGESA manufactures by-products including crushed blast furnace slag and granulated blast furnace slag (Hüttensand).
Operational management is handled by Dillinger, and the company has no direct employees. As part of the broader SHS Group decarbonization strategy, ROGESA has expanded its role to include raw materials and scrap management. This encompasses sourcing, transportation, handling, and processing of scrap, as well as coordination of hydrogen procurement for projects such as Power4Steel.
The company supports the transition toward lower-carbon steel production through investments in environmental technologies and participation in initiatives like advanced scrap processing plants and green hydrogen supply contracts. It plays a central role in securing raw material supplies for the SHS Group’s steel operations while advancing resource efficiency and emissions reduction in the European steel industry.
